Tips for indie authors

Free books

on September 17, 2013

Well, it’s confirmed, I’m now an Amazon bestseller! I have been running a free promotion on Kindle today and I have just checked the statistics and there it is- #1 in my category. That’s it I can now sit back in my ‘author’s chair’ and dream of fame and untold riches. ‘Hmm, where shall I spend the winter, Barbados, Hawaii?’ Well, to tell you the truth Amazon have numerous categories and sub-categories and sub-sub-categories and it was in one of these that I came number 1!
But unless you’re Dan Brown or JK Rowling you’d find it hard to reach the number one overall. So I’m happy with my modicum of success and who knows where it will all lead? I went to a branch of a national bookstore today and dropped off a copy of my paperback and they made all the right noises, which is encouraging. I also phoned up a national radio station last week and was lucky enough to appear on one of their phone-in slots and mentioned my book. I mention all this in the hope that it might encourage other authors who are in the same position of self-promoting as I am. It is frustrating coming up with ideas all the time but when one of them bears fruit then all the hard work is forgotten. Isn’t that the same with most things in life eh?
I’ll have to sign off now as I’m busy finishing off my sandwich-board to advertise my book. I just hope the rain holds off tomorrow as I don’t think it was a good idea to write it in in chalk!
P.S I’ve just seen this great website for authors to promote their free or discounted books. If you’re struggling to garner readership of your hard-worked novel then perhaps it’s worth a try? I’m going to give it a go!

I heard you on the radio and thought – that’s really a good idea – as I had not heard of you and now I have! 🙂

Thanks a lot for your interest in my post, I'll get back to you as soon as I can!
